I was recently talking to a service tech at the local Honda dealership and he said that a lady brought her Accord in the other day and asked him to drive it with her to roll over the 400,000 miles mark.  He said that she always brings it in for the required service and it still has the original engine and transmission.  He did not say what year or model it was.  Has anyone ever heard of this?

That doesn't make any sense to me.... a honda dealership probably won't care if it has that many miles or not, I suppose if the lady always had it serviced there and requested that someone come with her then I'm sure they would but why she would want that is anyone's guess...

it is impressive, however far shy of the record, i believe the record is 2.5million which is held by a volvo or saab.  but if/when mine rolls over that, i will probably have some champaign or something to celebrate, then laugh at all the domestics in the junk yard with far less then that.

Dodge is pretty good stuff to though.  Our Spirit has 160k and thats with the faulty tranny.  It hasnt been replaced or rebuilt.  Just has a $30 tranny cooler, which is what they all needed.  Dodge didnt allow enough fluid for the trannys to keep them cool.  Plus that Sprit will still rip your head off and spin the tires with no problem at all.  There is a Dodge Cummins diesel that went well over 1 million miles, and this is more impressive because he delivered Airstream campers with that truck.  So it was doing some long heavy hauls.  And didnt replace anything other than the usual!

Most Cars can last very long if it is properly maintained in my opinion. But Honda is the only engine that can take excessive abuse and still have a long life. I think they have a 1million mile honda but its in japan.

Yeah but that's just because you're their mechanic *L* I doubt someone would get that from MOST honda (notice I didn't say all) dealership service centers!

Heck yeah I wish he would have his shop here, would finally have a mechanic that I don't feel like I have to do my homework way before hand so they won't try to tell me something is wrong that isn't broken.  My old crummy pontiac I had a shop try to tell me my motor mount was bad.....it was 2 weeks old.  Needless to say I haven't gone back there.  I don't have any plan to get rid of my Accord so hopefully I will see 400k some day.....in fact I will be thrilled to hit 200k and I think I will this year.  Can't beat these cars I have taken it on long trips and everything.

I am planning on driving this car, many years after college, married to my HS sweetheart!  It will be nice to be working, and still be driving my first/trusty car.  I plan on keeping it for a VERY long time, as almsot all adults say they regret getting rid of their first car.

You guys will be grandpas by then  hehe Just kidding!

Im planning to keep my car forever, although not as my daily driver.  After I get out of the army, Im going to get something newer to drive, and thats when Im going to start doing the real work on my Accord, like new paint, rebuild the engine and turbo it, etc.

On a side note, I was at the Honda dealership today picking up trans fluid, and there was an older gentleman there who has an 87 Accord that he bought brand new at that dealership, and it has 385k on the original engine.  Never done anything to the engine but regular maintenance, although he said that it started leaking a little bit of oil at about 360k.  And I thought I had high mileage lol.
