My  a buddy at my school has a 91 Civic hatchback ( i know not an accord) he says hes going to drop an Integra type R motor into that thing... he has 150 k and is going to spend 5k on the motor alone. He drives that thing REALLY hard and i cannot imagine him getting his money out of it. Is he right is it smart to drop a new engine into an old beat up car ? Plus can that thing withstand 300+ hp ? btw its an auto

I for one would not judge what a guy does with his money or car. So long as he is happy then I see no reason not to.

I was thinking this was a really great idea for your friend... until I got to the last line.

Thats awful.  If you're going to spend $5k to put an ITR motor in a 91 Civic, at least make it a stick shift.  Thats wasting the potential of that engine, unless he is just going to build it to race 1/4 mile.

ITR are only using a 1.8L correct? Just different head i though.

It would be wiser just to drop a GSR motor with tranny and buy a type r head.

Much cheaper and easier to get

GSRs had the B18C1, Type Rs had the B18C3 or C5.  The B18C5 is the sweetest, 195 hp.  Im not sure exactly of the differences between a C1, C3, and C5.  Putting an ITR motor and five speed in that Civic would be sick, but it might take a bit of work.
