I've hit 132 with power to spare. If the 4-cyl has the same tranny, I think it could do it given a long enough stretch.

Gearing is different - bro-in-law's '00 V6 cruises 85 mph @ 2600rpm, my VTEC 2.2 hits 3500rpm. He's actually getting better gas mileage since he's using torque not high revs.

so I guess it's not the same tranny. 85 @ 2600 is about dead on from what I've seen.

I would really like to cruise @ 2600, but if I swapped out the tranny, the 2.2 would be so bogged down, it would take 10 min to get from 60-80 mph! I miss my past V6 cars!

^That's why you should get a manual trans in a 4cyl. Downshift it!

it's a 4 cylinder gotta rev that sucker to make power. that's why crotchrockets redline at like 14 k.

only joking, kinda. It would increase torque... sorta... but not in a good way. or in the way your looking for.

smaller wheels usually means lighter too. and lighter is always good in terms of wheels. lighter wheels let you..accelerate faster, decelerate faster, and less force is needed to turn the wheel. no torque or hp is actually gained, rather you free up that energy and makes more efficient use of its power.
*edit* here's an example. imagine how fast it takes you to lift an 80lbs dumbbell off the ground compared to a 35lbs dumbbell. people who have stock wheels might not see what the big deal is in lifting the 35lbs weight all the time. but for someone who's been lifting that 80lbs hunk of metal for months or years, that 35lbs will feel pretty damn good. too bad lifting more weight doesnt make your motor stronger lol

ok well the stock wheels are definitely not happening. but so far the only answer i've gotten to my actual question of what is a cheap $500> way to boost torque? so far i've gotten that a custom exhaust kit w/ 2.25'' piping and stock headers will help. (thanks falkore). does anyone else have an actual answer to my question?
