is it really bad to redline the car? I have a new 08 Accord V6 coupe and don't hit the redline often but I do like to get on it. I'd say I shift at the redline every once in a while. it feels like my car is designed to be driven like that. It responds great, stays in V-tech, and has launches down the road at 4.5Krpm in any gear. Am I abusing my car terribely by pushing it, or is it designed to be driven agressively?

Think of the lifespan of your engine in terms of total revolutions, not total miles or years.  You're wearing it out faster.

But you're right.  If it weren't designed for that, Honda would have painted the redline at a lower RPM.  I redline my engines too.  But when traffic doesn't allow me to accelerate like that, then I shift at 2200.  It's all about the situation you're in at the moment.

nice truck Ruger!

Hitting red line once in a while is ok... helps clean the injectors!

pegging rev limiter is ok when there is a load on the engine and you arent hanging out there all day.  Reving it in place is not as good for the motor but if you have engine management then you can lower the stock rev limiter so you don't feel as bad when you do it and don't do as much damage over time.

Thanks Kevin, before I got the Accord it was my daily driver.
Hard to beat the ride, gas mileage and REVS of the Honda.

Just drove it back from the tranny shop in Sevierville TN to Chapin SC.  It got 21.2 MPH coming over the mountains and playing with a few butt riding people on I-40.
Of course I can only rev it to 4K after the cam and springs I put in.
