Share Your Opinion To Improve HAF

deserthonda -> Share Your Opinion To Improve HAF (10/26/2007 2:07:34 PM)

I was sitting here wondering how we can make HAF  even better for current members  and more inviting to non-members  than what it already is ..

And i though who better to ask than all of you ..

I would like to read your inputs ..the dos and the do not.the good and the bad that you feel  exist here at HAF .How can we improve are good and eliminate our bad ..
. and please feel free to speak honestly and freely .

Now,, that does not mean that we will do as it is suggested BUT i will personally and i am sure other MODS  and ADMIN will read these, and if we feel that some of your suggestions are beneficial to our forum and all of its members , We will evaluate  them and  use them

And please .. keep your suggestion REALISTICLY  OBTAINABLE [;)]

Thanks [:)]
Gianni ...

Different format? I know atleast 2 other forums(don't have to do with honda) with this exact format[:(]. Would that be possible. It could be like "our forum is nothing like the others" kind of vibe[:D]

it would be cool if the "car of the month" thread was kept up with.  a bunch of people were nominated for september, and then the voting never happened.

allow me to scroll easily to the next thread when i have searched for the posts since my last visit.  its a pita to keep hitting the back button, especially with all the invisible ad pages in there.

sir_nasty -> RE: Share Your Opinion To Improve HAF (10/27/2007 8:58:19 AM)

I don't know how easy it is to do that but it's a great idea.  Just a side note if you hit the backspace key it will/should act like you pressed the back button (as long as you aren't in a text field) That's my little navigation tip/trick.

smaglik -> RE: Share Your Opinion To Improve HAF (10/27/2007 9:10:04 AM)

good idea.

MacLeod -> RE: Share Your Opinion To Improve HAF (10/27/2007 9:31:47 AM)

My only complaint is the format.  Its a little too convoluted and hard to keep track of things.  The ads are also distracting but I understand without them, there wouldnt be a HAF.

I post on the Polk Audio forum regularly and believe it has a very good layout and format.

If it would not gum up the works, I think it would be advantageous if everyone used more photos when either explaining a problem, or explaining a solution.  Most times a good photo is indeed worth a thousand words, even though it's a bit of a PITA to take, edit, and post them.

I think it deserves at least a bit of thought to consider that an aboslutely perfect HAF - a place where the solution to every Accord problem could be found with just a few clicks -  would probably have a great many "veiws", but quite possibly very few new posts.

Theoretically, at least, that would be the ideal natural evolution of the HAF.  Of course the competing natural impulse of the newbie is to come here and, without searching at all, ask how to change the oil and filter, so maybe this is all just BS.

I feel that the entire section is a waste of time and bandwidth. It has never really worked as was hoped and it's time to scrap it completely. That space could be used for something else of more interest..........which members could suggest.

RTexasF -> RE: Share Your Opinion To Improve HAF (10/27/2007 10:18:53 AM)

The HAF Help & Suggestion Center was originally meant for suggestions to improve the site. It has now turned into a "my car won't start" area. Those problems should have been posted elsewhere. That section could be deleted or cleared completely and started over going back to its original intent. If someone posts something there that has nothing to do with improving the site, move it to the appropriate area.

nafango2 -> RE: Share Your Opinion To Improve HAF (10/27/2007 11:25:18 AM)

scrap the car of the month and suggestion center.

upgrade the for sale/wanted areas to a more craiglist type thing (or ebay type thing).

not that complex, just make a better way of monitoring whats for sale and what people want.

have people input their car year + model into their profile when they sign up, then have that auto-entered into their sig or the space below their username.

I agree too!  For example the DIY section is a great source of information, but for people like me, pics would be greatly appreciated.  It says do this do that unscrew this, but for those that are noob like me we are trying to figure out what is what in order to follow along.

There are also a lot of questions that come up that are very similar.  It would be nice if threads were stickied more often for common questions or tech issues.  This would be useful to help people find the solution to their problem more efficiently.  Eg the 6th gen clock issue.  Then again like tony pointed out, if info was too easily accessible why would people post their questions.  Most common questions can be found through a search, but if everybody searched there would be a lot less new posts and less activity and just a higher amount of views.

Anyways, pics would be great when people fix stuff or have an issue to help everybody figure out what's going on.  Pics pics pics!  [:D]

How about some sort of incentive for DIY's?
Like you'll get another star or something.

In my opinion, the DIY is hard to find things, so inside that category I think it needs to be divided up again by year and what part of the car such as engine, or exterior.

Yes i agree that pics in the  DIY along with the written part  would be a great asset to the members and a lot easier to understand ...
.. But I for one ,sorry to say this,, am NEVER going to be able to take and  include  pictures on the DIYs that i write
.. All the DIY the i  have written or write up, are from doing the job recently or from past memory .. while doing a job in a customer car I will never stop to take pictures ,, A hobbist can do that , take their time, take a break , take pictures etc etc ,, but not when i have to make a living and  get the customer car out ASAP so i can work on another car ..So i can make a living and pay my bills ..

So if someone has pictures on some of the DIY that have been written up let us know and i am sure there is a way that we can input them to the already written DIYs ...personally i do not know how to do it , but i am sure that  the Administrators do ..

A "veiw your posts" button could be useful.
