then why did mine used to hold at 111mph with the pedal floored?

Well, what gear were you in?
Most people try to shift an automatic like a manual, and that just hurts the performance.
Just leave it in drive and step on the go-go pedal

D4

Next time I would recommend D3.  D4 is basically your Overdrive and the car will automatically upshift.
Say in D3

No

You should use D3 for you normal every day driving, up to 50-55mph. So basically if you know you're gonna get on the highway, keep it in D3 until you reach around that speed and then upshift into D4 for highway speeds. This is all in your owners manual.

kord: that will hurt your mileage tremendously. Mine shifts into 4th at a little over 35 mph! if it wasnt optimal for the engine to shift into 4th, it wouldnt.

I agree with you  Fango:   ive been 100mph in D3 and my rpms were around 5200 or so
and ive also been 110mph in D4 around 3500 rpms...Isnt it true the more rpms your pushing the more fuel your burning ? and mine shifts into 4th around 35 also!

O rly? So does mine. I didn't say do it, thats just what is recommended in your owner's manual. In case you missed that part of my post.

I do it all the time.

The problem with leaving it in d4 all the time is that its an overdrive gear meant for cruising. You don't want to be in overdrive while driving through hills or city traffic. That's what d3 is for. Even if you're burning a tad more gas in the process its better for your transmission and overall life of the car. Otherwise the transmission is constantly trying to upshift/downshift in those conditions.

Read your owners manuals people.

I've gone 110 in mine.  But didnt have any more room to keep going.  So since mine is a 97 LX it is limited?

Also, do you guys know if the 97 lx speedo is not accurate at certian speeds?  My friends always claim they drive the speed limit (even tested it, both set our crusise to 65 and he was pulling away (04 impala)) , yet I am always going slower.  Hmmph.
