So I bought some oem tail lights from someone off craigslist to replace some ugly nipple looking tail lights i had. Only thing is, when I went to replace the ones that go on the trunk, they didnt fit. Am I tripping or do 99 honda accord tail lights not fit on 98 accord? Only the lights that fit on the body which are the corner ones fit.

I was thinking that maybe the trunk was aftermarket but I looked and the trunk had the vin the same as the car on it. I feel mindF&**ed

 

They should fit fine, I don't see why they wouldn't.. I can see if the 2003 (I think), updated ones, don't fit but the 98 and 99 are perfectly interchangeable.. Try again, send some pictures as to where the fitment is a problem, if you can..

I even removed the keyhole thinking it was that but even the keyhole doesnt match up. I was all jittery/cracked out from my preworkout after the gym so I was thinking I wasnt doing it right but I mean, If it fit it would have just slid straight on.

I will upload a picture in about 2.5 hours when I come back home.

I also googled it yesterday and read that Someone called a Honda dealership to ask if 98/99 tail lights fit 00-02. The Honda guy said no, but in my case Im trying to put a 99 on 98. Blahhh fml, worse part of it was that its from Craigslist so no refund haha

 

Hmm, don't know what it is.. Are they stock tail lights that you bought from another parted out accord or are they like aftermarket taillights??

 

They're stock, it has Honda embossed on it. It kinda looks like I have to slide them in or put them in at an angle but I cant. wtfff

 

I tried and tried but no dice. The ones I bought were too tall i guess so they dont go on.

 

Just an idea but were coupe and sedan tail lights different for those years?

 

yeah coupe and sedan tail lights were completely different for 98-02.. Because the coupe used the NSX style taillights and the sedan was, well, the much larger tail lights..

 

Yeah, you're right. I seriously don't understand why 99 tail lights wont go on it -___- He even saw my hideous tail lights and said "Those things are ugly, I had the same exact ones so I bought these but i wrecked my car"

On the tail lights it has embossed,

HONDA

and a L for left and R for right

and below the text written above there is a tiny B.

 

I really don't know what else to tell ya, hard for me to say without looking as to what exactly isn't fitting.. I know they usually sell the aftermarkets as 98-02 interchangable for any of those years, I know 03 was revamped a little, may still fit, not sure though..

But what you've, they should fit just fine presuming you know what you're doing.. from the looks of it, do they look the same at least, size wise and all?? the old tail lights you had in there and the new ones you bought?? did you take out the old ones already??
