Why big aluminum spoilers?

why? i never understood, why do people put big ugly aluminum "race" spoilers you can pick up from autozone on their Front wheel drive car. its neither practical nor good looking. the last bit being opinionated, but you cannot argue practicle. the downforce a real spoiler like that would produce would only be neccesary at high speeds(150+) on a rear or AWD car. maybe with a huge front lip and rear difuser the spoiler might be useful, but no honda can go that fast so i doesnt matter

It depends on what the application is. Contrary to what most thing, you DONT have to be going 150mph+ to make one useful. You do, however, need to be going quite fast. Faster than you'd corner on any public roads. I used to race NASA American Iron and my fox body had an adjustable rear wing and front spoiler. It did make quite a difference when going around a long sweeper at 70ish. But in the case for the kid with the Civic DX and the wing thats higher than the roof... no, thats just nasty.

It gives them somewhere to put their lunch when they are on a picnic.

It's something to push on when they are going up and down the shopping lanes.

If you had searched this forum at all, you would have seen that the vast majority of members here are opposed to spoilers. The ones that may like them know they are only for looks, and serve no function.
Stop wasting our space on this forum.

I hope a mod bans you soon

RE: Why big aluminum spoilers?

Bottomline, spoilers are designed to create rear downforce to give more grip on a RWD car. Needless to say this is useless on our FWD cars. Cars have them as a dealer option for asthetics. I prefer my sleek trunk lip.
