02 Accord Value Edition - Installing Central Locking?
 

Hi guys,

This is my first post on this forum, and it's my first Honda as well, so I'm all excited.

I recently bought a 2002 Accord Value Edition. It's in pretty good shape and drives well, and I'm happy with it.. except for the lack of central locking. These days it's just expected that a car will have central locking, and I have to keep reminding my passengers to lock the door. I want to get central locking installed, but have no idea what to expect.

I thought of going to a mechanic, but then figured I'd ask you guys first, to get a frame of reference.

So: How do I get central locking installed? Is it possible? How expensive would it be?

And any recommendations for a good trustworthy auto shop in the Boston, MA, area would be most welcome.

well, we know how the "value edition" saved costs. :) next time, buy an EX.

my question to you is if you have electronic locks on the passenger door that just aren't wired to the driver's door, or if you have manual locks?

if you have manual locks, then you need to have electronic solenoids installed in each door. then wire those back to the dash or driver's door. you could scavange the parts from a 2002 in the salvage yard.

if you have electronic locks, you can simply extend the wiring to the dash or driver's door. you can reference the wiring diagrams in a Haynes manual so you get the color code and connections just right.
