03 Factory Speaker Replacement

So yeahh...the Pioneer speakers don't do jack, especially at their watt output (a mere 30 W)

So can anyone suggest a low cost alternative and how to change the speakers? I'm pretty sure that they are 10".

EDIT- Here's some pictures I took with my phone.

RE: 03 Factory Speaker Replacement

6x9's are a standard, for the rear speakers, and those speakers are based on a factory deck, the deck is ultimately what puts out the power, that 30watts is the max it can handle

memphis power reference is a good speaker to run on a factory deck and they run a little bit better off a 50watt rms amp

with door speakers and rear speakers youre not looking at big bass, so high wattage isnt needed a 6x9 is only able to push so much when its free air

You'll get as many suggestions as there are brands. I went with Kickers in the rear and the front doors, the tweeters were left stock. Go to the Photo Gallery (top of the page) to see the difference between the stock & aftermarket 6X9's.

Thanks for response, guys.

So to increase the "boom", I would have to get a subwoofer and amp? Any way to tweak the deck? So even if the speakers can handle 55 W but the deck supplies 30W, it'll be a waste? And can you put a subwoofer in the speaker slot?

EDIT- And I have an LX 4dr...so no speaker is on the rear doors. Just the front door and back. :/

If you want to go really cheap, you can get some 3 way 6x9 Roadmasters at Wal-Mart for 20 bucks. I bought a pair for my car and they dont sound to bad at all. I left one stock speaker in and one Roadmaster in a could tell a noticeable difference. But I also have a Aiwa headunit and subwoofers. The door speakers are stock though.

Yeahhh...so about the subwoofer....does it have to hooked up to an amp? And where does the amp hook up?

Headunit = amp?

RE: 03 Factory Speaker Replacement

It depends on what type/style of sub you want and how much boom you want. If you want enough boom to piss off everyone at the stoplight you'll need a dedicated amp and one or two subs in boxes. If you want to add to the bass but not obnoxiously so, several self contained subs are available such as this one:
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-Mq3yz4Q...k&i=108BASSLIN

Of the speakers pictured above I would only consider the Sony or Alpine because they are of known quality. My opinion and 25 cents won't even get you a call at a pay phone though.

RE: 03 Factory Speaker Replacement

So where do the self-contained subwoofers connect to? Is it the factory deck? And you wouldn't need an amp with a self-contained sub too?

RE: 03 Factory Speaker Replacement

Most have two inputs. From the head unit or from the speakers. The one I showed a link to has its own built in amplifier.

RE: 03 Factory Speaker Replacement

So if the sub goes in the back, I would just remove a speaker and use the existing wire to wire it to the factory deck?
