2013 Accord EX-L nice technology terrible sound
 

I love my 2013 Accord. I just picked it up last week and it's got everything I've ever wanted out of an Accord except great sound. I'm surprised about that too because it seems like Honda went to a lot of trouble to make this a high tech, fun to drive car then went skimpy on sound.
I'm not looking for something that will bass out the windows and make the hair on my neck dance, but I would like a high quality, distortion free sound.
Any suggestions for an easy upgrade? Is it all in the speakers or do I need other equipment to get a premium sound feel out of the system?

these cars come with an active noise cancelling system that sacrifices sound quality for noise cancellation.

you can bypass the internal DSP by going into the developer menu. there are videos on YouTube showing this process for 9th gen Accords with touch screen head units.

additionally, the head unit has a clean 3V RMS output before the factory amp. simply inserting an aftermarket amp between the HU and speakers can be a huge improvement. you could take that a step further with a DSP amp like the JBL MS-8 and be totally happy.
