92 dash lights
 

i have a 92 accord 4 door and i hooked up fog lights. they drained my battery so i thought if i hooked them up to the power wire from the stero they would only get power when the car was running or ignition was on. I KNOW STUPID. it gets worse the stero got stolen and i did not want to go directly into the harnese so i sow a light for the ashtray and it was not working so i thought i could get power from it. it had 2 red wires to it. after cutting the light off the dash lights stoped working and the one wire would give the fog lights power and the other would make the dash light come on. but only when the toggle switch was fliped on.

I checked all fuses and replaced the cigeret lighter and still nothein. Im thinking that it might be the dimmer switch. but confused why it would work when the forg power wire was conected the one wire.

Any answers or ideas would be great.

stop trying to rig it up. wire it into the lowbeams like it is supposed to be. get a better battery to sustain the extra current draw. reconnect the wires the way they are supposed to be in the dash.

that is my suggestion.

in order for lights (or anything else) to work they need two connections - power and ground. both are equally important.

you are learning as you go, so just take note of all this and remember for next time. if you want fog lights to be controlled by a switch but turn off when the car is off you can use a toggle switch and a relay.

just like this except your "remote turn-on lead" on pin 86 will be a wire from the ignition through your toggle switch. there will be very low current on that wire so no issues blowing fuses. the relay should be a 30-40A relay. The lights would take the place of the Fans. 12V+ would be wired directly to the battery positive terminal with an in-line fuse.
