'95 LX Sound System
 

Hey all,

I have a 1995 LX Manual Transmission (sorry, don't know the engine size, but I don't think it's relevant for this particular inquiry)

I'd previously replaced the car's rear speakers with some Pioneer TS-A1674R A-Series 6 1/2" 3-Way 300 Watts Speakers. The door speakers are still the stock ones the car came with.

I'm looking to move the two Pioneers up front to replace the doors, and place a subwoofer (or two) in the back.

MY knowledge on vehicle sound systems is fairly limited. But I do know I would need to 1) replace the stock head unit 2) install an amp.

I'd really prefer to install everything myself rather than pay some one to do it, so if anyone could help me figure to get everything installed and setup, I'd appreciate it.

welcome. the vehicle is a pretty easy platform to work with.

step one is certainly to get a new head unit. i recommend one with time alignment, such as the Alpine CDE-HD149BT or the less expensive CDE-147BT. visit Search Results for "metra-online.com" for head unit mounting kit and wire harness adapters. if you buy the head unit from Crutchfield you get the adapters for free.

For good musical results, getting a component set for up front is much more important than a second sub. one sub can often be louder than two given space and power limitations. i recommend you locate the tweeters in the factory dash corner locations, but the sail panels on the doors is an acceptable location as well. if you use the sail panels, the crossovers will be on the door behind the panel (but not inside where it can get wet). putting the crossovers on the door allows you to reuse factory speaker wiring and minimizes the project effort.

i treat the acoustical challenges of cars when i install speakers. i get the front doors sounding like they are made of wood and not metal - it greatly improves the sound with minimal cost and effort.

installing an amp isn't difficult but attention should be paid to making quality connections and wire routing. my build logs (links in sig) have a lot of photos that will give you ideas of wiring routing, equipment mounting, etc. mounting the amp independent of the sub box is a good idea.
