Advice wanted on installing an RCA input to 2003 Accord stereo for MP3 player use

Hey folks,

Just joined these forums to seek information on the following:

I have a 2003 Honda Accord Coupe EX (leather seats, sunroof) and want to add an RCA input to my stereo so I can properly plug in my ipod instead of using the crappy radio attachement ones that plug into the cigarette lighter. I've tried two of these and both have sucked, both in terms of sound quality and finding a good signal. There's not much free radio space around here. So, want to avoid an FM-based solution.

Honda has told me that they are unable to do the conversion, I guess b/c my stereo predates when Honda began making them with an RCA or able to convert to one.

Am I looking at having to buy a whole new stereo dash? I hope not, b/c what I have has a 6 CD changer that I like, and it is of course designed to fit aesthetically with my car. I don't want to get anything that looks or sounds "rigged."

Also, what kind of $$$ might I be needing to drop?

I'd appreciate learning more about my options.

Thanks.

look into if this is compatible with your exact model

Thanks. From reading that, I cannot tell if it is another FM-based solution that relies upon a radio signal, or if it instead relies only on the car's stereo/amplifier (which is what I'm hoping for). Thanks.

you'll need to look at the back of your factory radio for an unused wire harness input - for an external source such as SAT or an external changer.

2003 head units with an internal CD changer may or may not have an external input - you'll have to verify (and post a pic).

another model is the USA Spec PA11-HON2

before you buy one, you need to verify with your exact head unit.

these are not FM modulated signals but directly input the low level signal from the ipod into the factory radio via existing inputs. ipod charging is supported and some head units will support ipod control and text display. capabilities all depends on your exact honda head unit model.

RCA output

I have a RCA aux input hooked up in my car but i want to add an amplifier in but i am still using the factory head unit. i am looking to purchase this (HILO PAC AOEM-HON20 Amplifier integration interface for Honda vehicles OEM-1 with a vehicle specific harness plugs into the vehicle\'s wiring and offers a 4 channel RCA audio output for adding aftermarket amplification. Provides full range audio outp) which will allow me to run a RCA cable from the amp to the head unit. Will this interfere with the AUX input i already have installed?

The item pictured above is universal, you will need both 70-1721 & 71-1721 Metra harnesses to interface wiring so you dont cut factory wiring. The HON20 has matching factory harnesses to greatly simplify installation.
