Aux input does nothing.
 

I have a 2011 Honda Accord with a stock auxiliary input jack in the center console. Nothing happens when I push the AUX button, with or without an audio device plugged in. I've checked the wiring under the consol and everything seems fine. Has anyone had this problem before? What can the problem be?

Not all audio devices will work (or mate) to the AUX system... try a different device, i.e. an iPod, smart phone, etc

Check your in-car menu to be sure that the 'Source' is correctly selected

And of course, the AUX system will not work at all with nothing plugged-in.

Also consider using a different cord, perhaps the one you have is defective

I apologize I failed to mention... I have indeed tried several devices including and android phone, iphone, and a portable mp3 player. I have also tried two old cords that I had lying around as well as a brand new one that I purchased for this purpose. I jiggled the end of the cable around with the music playing to make sure it was making good contact. And I also went through the diagnoses check on the radios interface to make sure the AUX button was working.

I did some more digging on other forums and found a couple of people with the same issue and a similar cause. They said that the auxiliary connection to the back of the radio unit had a bent/broken prong. They had to replace the entire unit. I fear this might be the same problem I'm having. Not only am I going to have to purchase an entire unit... but the disassembly for anything on these foreign cars is the stuff of nightmares. I pray that someone with another cause and solution will read this and save me from this nightmare.

You're right, changing out the audio unit is complex, it may be worth the expense to have it done professionally.

I wanted to upgrade the speakers in my Accord, of course the ones in the door panels are relatively easy to replace, however I found out that in order to exchange the two in the rear deck, the entire back seat (upper and lower sections) must be removed first... not that complicated, although very time consuming

actually, Honda and Toyota make some of the easiest cars to disassemble. i've been doing automotive installs and work for the past 20 years and the newer Honda's are the easiest. the rear deck does require some time, but it's just one piece at a time. i could disassemble my 2001 Accord with ease - in 45 minutes the entire interior (seats, console, trim, carpet) could be removed. dash came apart easily:

part of what makes them (Honda and Toyota) easy to work on is the use of high quality clips and parts. last fall, i re-tapped the cylinder head bolt holes (installed TimeSerts the engine block) in my 2002 Camry - in a weekend. not a single bolt was a problem.

i only show you those pictures to give you hope - to let you know that these cars are a joy to work on.

i've taken many cars apart and put them back together and I think the hardest make is Chrysler due to low quality parts. GM is a close second. Foreign cars are just simpler and easier and you need fewer tools.

note that the radio itself isn't a Honda product, and across all manufacturers, the radio quality isn't up to par with the vehicle - a downside to low bidders.

removing your factory radio shouldn't take more than 10 minutes. they make a radio replacement kit so you can install a modern head unit with all of the latest features. if you went that route - there are different kits for each trim level (dual A/C or NAVI change the kit). even if you just want to look at the factory radio, the instructions are online so you can see how to uninstall it:

from the instructions you can see that most of the effort is removing the various trim pieces around the radio - but it's just clips and a few philips screws. a trim panel removal tool (thin nylon tool available at any parts store) is a good idea so you don't marr the finish when prying panels loose).

so, with all of that said, there are a few simpler things to try.

first, how long has it not worked and how long have you had the car?

it's possible resetting the memory can get the radio to recognize the jack again. but you may need the 5-digit factory radio code (usually issued on a thin credit-card sized piece of paper. you can do this by removing the radio memory fuses.

it's also possible the problem is at the jack itself. if the console has been removed, that connection could have been stressed when the console was lifted up. looking at the jack would just require removing the center console.
