Deck / Reciever questions
 

Hi i just purchased a 2000 Accord v6 EX and am trying to set up some kind of audio system for it. Note: This is the model with 6 factory speakers, tweeters in front, 6 1/2s in front door, 6x9s in rear. I was wondering if it would make a big difference, even in the sound of my factory speakers (will they sound better/louder/more bass, etc.) if I upgrade the deck/reciever. My buddy can give me his brand new in box. Link below.

You will see a slight increase in loudness, but very small. An aftermarket HU does not have much more power than the stock HU. And the stock speakers are complete crap so nothing will ever make them sound good. If you want good sound, invest in some medium quality speakers, an amp, and a new HU. A New HU is going to give more options but not really increase the sound quality.EDIT:I'm sorry I worded that wrong. A new HU will give you much better sound quality over the stock HU. But a new HU with stock speakers is what I was talking about.If you replace the speakers and don't amp them you will still increase the sound quality but you will lose the bass output. If you don't want to amp the speakers look for speakers with a high sensitivity rating (91db+) and a low RMS power rating. If not the speakers will sound muffled on HU power.

So a new HU, like the one in the link, will give me better sound quality out of some better speakers, but will not really do anything for my stock speakers? Just to clarify.. and my stock hu will give my stock speakers more bass?

The stock HU has a built in EQ to increase the bass to make it sound boomy. So a new HU will lose that permanent EQ setting. You can always turn the bass up on the EQ on the new HU if you want more bass. The stock HU is set up to make those crappy speakers sound somwhat decent, which destroys the sound quality. So if you want a quality system then the stock HU has to go, or get a JL clean sweep if your really want to use the stock HU.

ok thanks for the info. So i will want to get rid of the stock HUthen... as i can just turn the bass up on my aftermarket one to getmore bass out ofmy speakers, and if i am upgrading my speakers, the aftermarket HU willalso be better. (on a side note can you add a small amp onto the stock HU, or do you have to have an aftermarket one?) Thanks for all the info, really helpful

Yes you can hook up any amp to the stock HU. Some amps have both low (RCA) and high (speaker) level inputs, if the amp has high level inputs you just have to splice into the speaker wiring from the stock HU. If the amp does not have high level inputs and only RCAs you have to get a LOC (line out converter) which will convert the speaker signal to RCAs. Glad to help!
