fried my cassette deck, CD and radio finewhat now?

So glad to have found this forum. Hope you guys can help.

I have a 2001 Accord with an OEM 6-CD, radio, and cassette deck as pictured here: http://tinyurl.com/9d94cp.

It's been a great stereo so far, and I use a standard tape-to-jack to play my iPod through it. And here we go . . .

This morning as I reached for the jack it shocked me, probably because of static built up sliding into the seat on a cold winter morning. I knew it was a doozy, and sure enough when I turned it on there was interference when trying to play through the tape deck, a high-pitched whine over the iPod audio. Sounds horrible. I tried playing a regular cassette (after a long search to find one) and got the same result. So, the cassette deck is fried.

But the CD player and the radio sound just fine. What's the best route to take here? Is it even possible to get the cassette part repaired, or will I just have to replace the whole unit with either another OEM of the same or some third party unit?

By best route, I mean the cheapest way to get rolling again so I can listen to my iPod.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or warnings about how to not get ripped off.

replace the whole thing is the best way to go IMO..get a head unit that's ipod ready, or a simpler one with just an aux output on the front, to plug in your ipod to..

Thanks. That's what I was afraid of, but I just wanted to check first.

Good call,

Yeah, go with the aftermarket one, preferrably Ipod ready, because then you will able to charge/control your ipod through the stereo. I think these days it is cheaper to get the aftermarket one, then to replace the OEM.

Chek out www.crutchfield.com

Good Luck

Only go to crutchfield if you want to spend extra money on excellent service, I order form them when I can but better deals are all over the net. You can just get a $25 headunit if you don't mind controlling the ipod from the ipod it's self. I prefer that over a HU with built in controls and just putting it on shuffle and pressing next, that's why I love my indash. Your not going to have the best quality system but will be much better than what you had before.
