Install Stereo
I have a 1989 Accord LX that did not come with a radio when I purchased it. I would like to install an aftermarket stereo. I would like to know if there is any special hardware needed.

you'll simply need the Metra 70-1720 wire harness adapter. the factory radio is single din, but you need the mounting brackets off it to mount an aftermarket radio in - maybe a salvage yard?

i am facing nearly the same problem as you. i just got a 1989 honda accord lxi coupe, from a junk yard, and someoen has stolen the radio and did a number on the wires for the radio, they also had taken the front right speaker.i have a radio to put in there its just a metter of connecting all the wires again so i can plug it up. but i still need a new speaker. anyone with tips or advice on this , i am very grateful.

I would suggest buying a new factory harness. matching those wires and getting the adapter to put in the new stereo.
as far as buying a new speaker, find out the speaker size. crutchfield.com can help you with that. then buy a new one. |

a new harness is the best route, but it is tedious work. in that case, you'd by both the 70-1720 and the 71-1720. the 71-1720 would be wired to the car wiring. the 70-1720 would be wired to the new head unit. then the two plugs would connect. |
Great info men..that should help him out with the project he's going to be doing. :)
