most annoying trunk rattle
 

so i got everything in my trunk to stop rattling....EXCEPT the stupid trunk release thing. if i use that expanding spray foam, im scared the latch wont work. any ideas?

Do you mean rattle from bass or from just driving? Spraying foam in there is only going to cause you problems. Mine does not rattle from either bass or driving, so I would say something is wrong. Check and make sure it's not loose. Are you sure the rattling is not coming from the bottle jack holder? When I first got my accord I had to go and secure the jack holder, b/c it was rattling like crazy.

its from bass. its always done it ever since i got my first system. i just got a new one and now its worse than ever. i listened closely and it has to be the latch. when i sit on my trunk or add any mass, it goes away, so i maybe the trunk is closing all the way down or should be a little tighter?

Dynamat. It works great for stopping rattles. If its a part that has to slide into another part then try putting some duct tape on it. That should be thin enough so that it will still slide freely but add enough mass to it so that it wont rattle.

If pressing down on the sheet metal makes the rattle go away, then it is probably that sheet metal resonating. Pressing down from the outside would not stop that release from rattling if it was loose. You can't get dynomat on that sheet, so you have to fill that space between the outer sheet, and the internal frame that the trunk release is attached to with expanding foam. Use the one for doors and windows as if you use too much it won't put any stress on the metal.

is there anyway to just add mass to the trunk without dynamat? its obnoxiously expensive. will the expanding foam add any mass? iv never actually used it before

No the foam wont add mass to the trunk. Dynamat is expensive but it works. There are others out there but Dynamat is the best IMO. You can go cheaper but dont be surprised when it peels off the first time it gets over 85 degrees out.

yeah i think im gonna stop being cheap this time and get the real thing. i wouldnt that much though, right? only enough to get the trunk? and iv never seen it in person before, how much does this stuff weigh?

Its pretty dense which is why it works well.

They sell a kit that can do the ENTIRE trunk. Its in the $150's but it will cover your whole trunk and trunk lid with a single layer. This will greatly increase the rigidity of your trunk which means less flexing which means louder bass. ;)

If you dont want to spend that much they have the Wedge Pack which is a 4 square feet sheet of Dynamat which can be found for $25-40 depending on the shop you get it at. This would be enough for the trunk lid.

Its up to you how much you want to spend but as a rule, you cant have too much Dynamat and it will make a difference.
