new amp setup?
 

my rf subs put out 150rms and theyre currently bridged to an rf 250 watt 2ch amp. well im sick of my speakers not being amped, so i was thinking of getting a kicker zx300.1 for the subs and using the 2ch amp for the speakers? the speakers are 50rms and the 2ch amp has 125rms per channel at 2ohms. so should wire the front speakers to a 2ohm load for one channel, and the same to the rears for the other channel? or should i just get a 4ch amp?

Should you? Definitely not especially the way you have it planned out. I guess you can if you really HAD to. But you would pair the rights and the lefts, not the front and rears.

what are the drawbacks for doing it? is it bad to wire speakers to 2ohms?

In that aspect I'm pretty sure it would be fine. Two 4ohm speakers wired in series will give you a 2ohm load. You will just be giving up your fader control, which is pretty much necessary if you care at all about staging. But aside from that I don't think the amp will have a problem with that. I'm really not %100, but I see no way it could over load the amp long as your resistance isn't too low or high

psht you know im too noob to worry about that staging stuff. maybe when i get the money for a good set of speakers

I would get some more opinions on doing that, there may be something I'm overlooking or don't know about.

as long as its ok to wire speakers to 2ohms and a little bit of overpowering isnt too bad, then it doesnt seem like much could go wrong

Wire the left front and rear speakers to the amps left output and the right front and rear speakers to the amps right output.

If you wire just the fronts to the left or right channel, it will screw up the sound way bad. Your left channel will be the front speakers and the right channels will be the back.
