Radio Static Noise on 2003 Accord
 

Hello,

I got headache problem with radio on my 2003 Accord. Actually since 2008, sometimes radio display is blank in the beginning when car starts up. It usually resumes normal in 1 - 2 mins. Sometimes radio station info show up but no sound. If trying to turn off/on a couple of time, it can get it working. Recently I am getting static noise occasional coming out from speakers in the beginning when car starts up. It lasts 10 - 20 seconds then completely gone. Yesterday it scared me as the noise sounds like a big lightning strikes after I starts up car. It lasts 20 - 30 seconds, then radio gets normal in minutes as usual.

Due to shift gear and parking interlock problem, I did have dealer fixed my car a couple of times years ago. Is this repair related to radio wiring? Is it radio ground problem or aged radio components? How to diagnose this problem?

the radio has an extended warranty of up to 110k miles. it sounds like it is going out. the 03 accords had a lot of stereo problems. if you have less mileage than that you may be able to go to honda and get it replaced at no charge. if this is the case it will either fix the problem or rule out the headunit as cause of the problem.
