Replacing rear speakers...
 

I have the stock rear speakers in my car and one of them has a hole in the cone which rattles all the time now. Question is, is there a good AND cheap replacement speaker available? I don't have an amp and I'm a-ok with the sound of the stock 30W speakers. My deck throws out with 200W RMS and it has a built in crossover... so I guess something that can reproduce down to ~ 75Hz pretty well would be excellent. Right now they are 6" in 6x9 plates. I'm possibly looking to go the 6x9 route. Thanks guys.

I put in some polks last year that were very reasonable (under $100) and sounded very nice.

I just found some Alpine Type-S 2-ways on sale at crutchfield. I <3 Alpine, obviously.

If you have the mounting for a 6.5" get a 6.5" speaker. 6x9s are not good speaker design. They just have a larger cone area, which is why they sell so well. But this larger speaker doesn't make it louder or better. They are actually more prone to distortion. I've never really heard any cheap speakers I like so I can't really help you with that one.

are you sure that your deck puts out 200W RMS? That sounds like a typical peak rating.

You're right. It's 18W x 4 @ 4 Ohm... So if I get speakers that can handle 50W RMS and 200W peak... will they be decently loud powered by just the head unit?

The power capacity of the speaker doesn't really correlate to the volume directly. You don't want to get speakers that are made for a lot more power than what you are giving them. Unless you plan to get an external amp, you should get speakers that are matched to the power output of the amp. IMO, efficient speakers for your power range are JVC, Polk, JBL, Pioneer, JL among others.
