The right sub

Hi guys ..
I want to buy a sub woofer but im not sure which one will be the right one for my sedan.. Like we all know if i get the powerful one, it will rattle the trunk and if it isnt powerful enough, it will just be a waste of money.. any advices are appreciated ..

RE: The right sub

the biggest thing in selecting the right sub/box is what kind of music do you listen to? I have an Eclipse 12" in a sealed box for Punk/Metal or basically a fast hard bass roll... I just use a Kenwood 400W amp with it and I'm plenty happy... But if you listen to rap or something with a deep drawn out bass then I would suggest a bandpass box or a shelf ported box I've heard is a nice sound... I put a shelf ported box in my car with a slightly different sub and then swapped it out with my sealed box and noticed a difference but not a whole lot... so basically it comes down to what do you want to do/listen to? comptetion grade or ??

mmmm well you can get a powerful sub and it wont rattle your trunk. if you dont dynamat your trunk, any sub you get will produce distortion ranging from barely noticable to downright horrifying. some people dont mind bad sound.... actually a grip of people are perfectly happy with it. a ported box will give off a boomier sound, a bandpass box will give off an amplified boomy sound in the 60- 90 hertz range and a sealed box will give off a tighter cleaner sound, but requires more power to run.

side note, in a sealed case you can change the sound by adding polyfill often you can get deeper bass by doing that

Another Side Note.... I decided to take the same sealed box I have and drilled a 2.5" port in it at one point.... I never put in the plastic port but my sound went to @#$@# for obvious reasons....

the polyfill will make the bass much much deeper
