what is a sign of your amp being really hot?
if your asubs are over powered will it get really hot?
not like its burnin your hands but almost

Almost burning your hands is pretty hot. You really don't want to get your amps quite that hot. Try to mount them so they have free air space, meaning not under a seat or behind panels/sub boxes. You want to have circulating air if possible if you are going to run your amps hot.

Your amp could be getting hot because either your resistance is too low, or it is a cheap amp and your pushing it too hard.

Amps get hot, thats what they do and its completley normal. So long as you have plenty of air space around the amp and its not mounted upside down, it should be able to cool off.

That being said, make sure your gain is NO HIGHER than the "noon" position or halfway. You can overdrive your amp into clipping but this really wont hurt the amp - however it can send out a clipped signal at more than double its rated power at 10% THD which could shred your subs. The gain is NOT a volume control - its simply used to match the input level of the amp with the output level of the CD player so that when the CD player is at 50% volume, the amp is at 50% output. By having the gain set too high, when the CD player is at 25% the amp could be at 75% and once you get into the 101% rangeon the amp you could wind up with a very nice set of bookends instead of acouple subs.

Also a reason your amp may be getting hot is because the resistance is too low for the amp. If your trying to run 1 or 2 ohms on a 4 ohms stable amp it will get EXTREMELY hot right away. I always add a fan to my amps, maybe you should try that n see if it helps.

i have 2 fans built in it and its my subs are 2 4ohm dvc's and there hooked up to 1 ohm and my amp is stable at 1-2 or 4 ohms
it just gets more watts at 1-2 ohms
