Using charcoal as car air freshener

Since I don't have a cabin air filter in my 1993 accord, I put a couple boxes of baking soda( the kind made for the refrigerator)inside; one on the console and the other behind the drivers seat.
It's cut down on the odors maybe about 20%.
I thought about buying a bag of horticultural charcoal to see that also cuts down on the odors.
Anyone have experience using charcoal in the car?
Was it effective?

Probably need to remove evaporator and clean thoroughly to get rid of nasty, "old socks" smells in this gen Accord. Dirt/mold build due to warm, moist environment.

Not a bad job as evap box is easily accessed. Replace all orings on expansion valve and thermal bulb.

Probably good idea to retrofit to R134a if not already done.

good luck

Yup that would be the best way to get rid that "old socks" smells and yes it would also be the good time to convert your ac system by that time.
