Exclamation Knock Sensor

Please pass this information along to anyone who has a bad knock sensor. My wifes 2001 Honda Accord SE has the V-Tec engine and the knock sensor burned out. She called several mechanic shops and they all quoted her a price range of between $400.00 and $450.00 to replace it. She had purchased the part at Auto Zone for around $118.00 and asked how that would affect the price and each shop quoted about $300.00 to $350.00. They all stated that the mechanic labor bible shows the replacement time for the knock sensor was 3hrs. I have been a mechanic for several years, but have a back injury limiting my mobility. Regardless the price sounded outragous so I got out my maintenance ramps and drove the car onto them, located the knock sensor (near the oil filter), and realized that the job would take less than 30 minutes for anyone who can operate a ratchet to replace. After purchasing a 24mm socket to remove the old knock sensor I had the new one installed in less than 15 minutes. Unless you have the machine to clear the code and check engine light you will need to take it to a mechanic to clear it but that is far less expensive than the labor to replace the sensor. I have know idea why the mechanic labor book calls for 3hrs to replace the sensor but hopefully this will keep someone from getting ripped off by a shady mechanic shop. If anyone has questions you can contact me at bc0135@yahoo.com. Please dont take it to a mechanic it's a waist of money.

And... for 1998-2002 Accord you can reset the ECU (clear codes) by pulling fuse #13 in the right-side end of the dashboard. Near the right-front door-hinges.
