**Whining/Struggling sound under hood**
I can only really hear this stressed, whine sound (not loud at all), when I am in drive and stopped at a red light. It cannot be heard while in park. The sound is more clearly heard when my blinker is on because the whining sound follows the blinker if you know what I mean. I've had this sound for about 6 months now and it hasn't gotten any louder.
I'm thinking maybe is could be the alternator (possibly a bearing), but I'm not sure. I just replaced the battery and primary O2 sensor last week, just for a little background on recent updates. Any ideas what this could be? It almost sounds like something is struggling. The car accelerates and drives like brand new, btw. My vehicle specifics are listed in my sig. Thanks in advance, GB |
Sounds a lot like an alternator, if it follows the electrical load. Not sure about the park thing, I'd think you'd hear it all the time.
Try to take it to a parts store that tests the charging capacity for free - like an Auto Zone or the like - normally if you have one diode shorted in the alternator you'll get the whining and I'm hoping lower charging capacity. If the noise was there all the time you could have removed the belt and listen if the noise was still there or not. |
Thank you for your words of wisdom Draser.
