1984 Accord engine swap?

I have an '84 Accord with over 300,000 miles that has a pretty tired engine in it and a 5 speed manual. The car is still in pretty good shape, but burns oil. Buddy of mine has a 1989 Accord LXi which is an automatic, the car was total wrecked a few years ago with only liablity insurance on it at the time, so it has just been sitting in his back yard since. It only has 120,000 miles on it. I put a battery in it and it fired right up and runs great even after sitting a few years. Put it in gear and it move forwards and backwords, but couldn't be driven far because it was wrecked, obviously. He said he would sell me the car for like 100 bucks or something, he didn't care to much about it.

Will the '89 LXi engine drop in the '84 and bolt up? It LOOKS like the mounts are the same, but I want to be at least 90% certain before I dig in. I know obviously that one is fuel injected and the other isn't. I can deal with that since I have the whole '89 donor car. Just want to know if it will bolt in. I would like to use the automatic trans out of the '89 in place of the 5 speed in the 84, too, if possible.

Thanks!

if you have a donor car for parts then swapping to an automatic (which just for the record I think is a horrible move unless you only have one foot... *L*) won't be to difficult. I'd wait for a second opinion but I'm almost positive they will swap straight accross. According to this wiki your engine was in fact installed in some 89 accords so it could be the same engine

Thanks... only reason I want to swap the trans is because the manual grinds a little going into 2nd and 3rd, and the clutch is worn and slips if you don't take it easy.

Clutch is an easy fix with the tranny out, but if you've got a working auto then I can sort of understand that.... I'm just anti automatic...

Compare the engine codes. If they're the same A series, most likely they are, should be a direct swap. Consider looking on www.car-part.com for a new 5spd should you need it.
