1998 Accord Coupe 3.0.V6 High Idle

Hey Guys,

My beloved coupe has a problem, when I start it it idles like normal and it should then the revs should start to drop once it has started warm up but the revs increase and when in park the revs fluctuate between 1500 rpm to 2500 rpm.

And because it idles so high, when I put it into drive it moves off as if I am acclerating which means driving it is very dangerous and I have to jam on the brakes quite hard to stop :eek: I last drove the car a week ago and there were no issues before.

I'm guessing it's a case of adjusting the idle but am not sure. Any suggestions or solutions would be great as I don't want to get rid of it but may have to :( if it carries on like this....

Thanks in advance

Make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. Also make sure you don't have any air trapped in your cooling system.

Then take a look in the DIY section for a post about setting the BASE idle. I wrote that for 4-cyl engines, but I think it applies to V-6 also. The IACV on your V-6 is bolted to the bottom of the throttlebody and your engine doesn't have an FITV.

idle-air adjust screw = #1
IACV = #2
