2002 Accord, Help To Replace water neck on head top Rad hose
02 Accord 4 Cyl, On the head where the Top Rad hose connects there is a Plastic housing with a O Ring, Mine is leaking from there, I took it apart and tied to seal it but no luck, I have a new one on order with a new o ring.
Should I put any type of sealant on it when I replace it or just the o ring is fine? Is there a Torque Spec for the two bolts? Head seems fine So I believe it is the housing itself that is warped it is made of a plastic. Thanks |
Sealants are not used w/ oring seals. A bit of silicone grease and insuring oring seats are clean is necessary.
You may need to replace the upper radiator hose. It may have a poor fit causing the leak, unless the leak was by the oring and not the fitting/hose connection. I don't have a torque spec but would not tighten more than about 15 ft-lbs if 12mm socket size is used. For 10mm socket size, no more than 10 ft-lbs. good luck |
Look for crusty crud down in the O-ring groove. To seal properly, the groove needs to be clean & smooth.
Once the parts come together, compressing the O-ring, any additional tightening of the bolts does absolutely nothing. (except risk breaking something) |
It's Leaking between Neck and Head, Hose is good I Pressure Tested and could see it leaking. Yeah I don't want to over tighten it and figured Id try and find a spec so both bolt are tightened the same to reduce the chance of the new neck warping.

Change around from what I said...
You're getting a new hose-nozzle? So that O-ring groove will be new. But the surface of the head, right where the O-ring seals; THAT's where you should look for crud or scratches. The O-ring needs a nice clean smooth surface there, just like it does inside the groove. A scratch across that surface might cause the leak. Besides that, it might be that the old O-ring was removed & reinstalled. With age & heat, they get hardened and they frequently don't seal if you just bolt them back together. Maybe as simple as that? |
I am hoping it is simple, The head looks great and the surface seems fine and it is straight, I am hoping it is just a housing issue. Parts shipped today so I should know better by Mon or Tue.
WOuld like to know the factory torque spec still. |
