2015 Honda Accord CVT Failure
 

I was driving home 8 days ago and I saw the low tire pressure light on the dash. The car felt like it was shuddering (I was on an interstate) so I pulled over. I checked all the tires and all were good. I then noticed that several indicators were lit up on the dash-a power steering light, the MIL, and the traction light. I had the car towed to the nearest Honda dealer. They called me the next day and told me they thought the PCM was bad but that the ECM might be bad. They received the PCM (from California!) six days later (the next Tuesday afternoon). Replacing the PCM did not fix the problem; the lights were still lit so Honda kept troubleshooting. They called me today (Thursday) and told me the transmission has failed and needed to be replaced. They offered that I would only have to pay $800 of the $4000 total replacement cost so I told them to replace it. The car has about 66,700 miles on it and I was told by my local Acura dealer (close to my house so convenient place to get oil changed) that I would get a maintenance minder light that would tell me when to have the CVT fluid changed. I have looked in the maintenance manual online tonight and I am not finding any mileage-based guidance on replacing the CVT fluid. The service manager at this Honda dealer is telling me I should have had the fluid replaced at 35,000 miles. So, I will fight with Honda to get this done at no cost to me. More to come on that. I was curious--how common is this with the 2015 Accords? Mine is an LX if that matters. THANKS

Forgot to mention, if the P1890 error code is not set, the fix is to update the software.


If the error code is set, replace the CVT and then update the software...

I checked the mm for the 2015 Accord and according to it, it should be changed at 60K.

CVTs suck!
 

I just was at the dealer last week and was shocked to see almost all of the cars have CVTs. Only the top of the line Accord touring had a 6 speed automatic. Does Honda really want to risk their reputation with these historically poor reliability trans?

My Accord EX-L (not a Touring) has a 6 speed automatic.

I had a 2015 Sport with CVT and loved it... no issues. BTW: Nissan has been running a CVT for years, I test drove a 2005 Maxima with CVT and it was one of the smoothest shifting transmissions I've experienced
