91 accord auto tranny stuck in 3rd gear. Help
 

I have a 1991 accord. The transmision gets stuck in 3rd gear. If I disconnect the batery for an hour or so it resets and shifts normal for a while but eventualy it sticks in 3rd gear again. Also my speed ometer cuts in and out sometime it works and somtimeit dosent. looking for advice

Ive had the same problem, and have established through research, that it is a prob with the tranny or the Transmission Control Unit (TCU). I have a 91 Accord LX. and mine did the same thing...i dont have the money for a new TCU, so im jus unhooking the battery while the car is parked overnight, and plugin it back in in the morning,and she does fine.

Hey, did it just get stuck and stays in 3rd or does it happen intermitenly? I think I have the same problem with my '92 LX, it starts out in 3rd but about 10 minutes later it shift just fine.

This "gets stuck in 3rd gear" issue just reared it's ugly head on my 91 accord LX w/ AT. It happened while I was driving home for lunch so i drove my wagon back to work.
I'll look to pull the battery cable for a while since this issue seems to have never happened on this car before. Could it actually start from now on? How do I pull codes? I guess I'll search teh boards for that now....

do u have reverse? do u have manual 2nd? if so its a solinoid issue either TCM or hard parts

I have reverse, but no manual shift in any forward gear. 3rd from the beginning regardless of what gear I shift into.

I pulled the "backup/radio" fuse and that seemed to get me back to normal. I guess this doesn't solve what's going on but it does get me back to shifting.
I'm lucky enough to work with two guys who have a '90 and '91 respectively, and they both work on thier own so one has had my symptoms before and he told me to pull this fuse.
He was telling me that he had a slew of electrical problems and he eventually pulled his fuse box (the one under the hood) and cleaned every contact and after that, he hasn't had a single electrical problem. I don't know if I'll go that far... that is, unless I keep getting demons. This is my third demon remidied since I've had the car for only 2 weeks.
