91 starting issue
 
im buying a 91 accord from a friend just to drive to work. over the summer he had some problems with it starting. it turned over just fine, it just wouldnt start. problem only seemed to happen when it was hot out. any ideas??? its a 4cyl. auto. i dont know anymore information because i dont have the car yet sorry

i believe its the fuel relay, heard it overheats easily... but i have the same problem, wait a little bit, when you turn the key to position two... you should hear a whirrrrr and a click... if you hear neither, it won't start, just wait a little bit or just don't turn it off

Like Kitten says, turn the key to II - pause there instead of twisting directly to 'start'. Listen for the fuel pump to run for about 2 seconds. It's not real loud, so you may have to listen in the trunk or at the gas cap.

Search for 'main relay'. You'll find some instructions about repairing some poorly-made solder joints. Or just buy a new relay if you're not good with a soldering gun.

LaminatedKitten: that could possibly cause some of your starting issues/running issues (as mentioned on a previous post as well) sounds like you may both be a victim of this problem. Luckily it's pretty cheap/easy to fix
