99 accord 2.3 vtec SWAP....EXPERTS.....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!
I have a 99 accord ex 2.3l vtec 5 speed. 2 cylinders shot craps today due to worn rings. Has 251,000 miles but body and int. are perfect. So I'm fixing her.
I found a 2.3l vtec out of a 99 accord with 118,000 miles from local salvage yard that only deals with insurance totals. Cost 400+ tax (place has good rep) Questions; 1. Does it matter if the salvage motor was a AOD? 2. the 6th number in my v.i.n. matches totaled accord. 3. Is there any particulars I need to focus on to ensure a perfect swap. 4. I hear people referring to their vtec as "F23A1" how do I know which I have? 5. Can I tell from a pulled motor that it is a match? Let me know what info you guys need to help me make this successful. I will have replies forwarded to my phone I apologize if this is in the wrong section, I'm new to the site. I want to Thank You in advance for any and all help!!!!!!!!!! |
1. ??? What's "AOD"? Automatic vs. manual transmission doesn't matter. If you wanted to use the automatic transmission, then you should get the ECU from that donor car.
2. Good. 3. (see #4) 4. Engine type is stamped on the front of the block, alongside the exhaust manifold, right up against the split line between engine & transmission. Flat surface with stamped serial number. First line should say F23A1 in both cases. Even better if the 1st digit in the second line (block serial #) matches. F23A1 = VTEC F23A4 = ULEV VTEC - California car has a whole different wiring harness, so post back. F23A5 = non-VTEC, for example from an Accord DX 5. (see #4) |
