99 EX Auto trans won't come out of Park

I've got a 99 accord ex w/ 140,000 miles. Occasionally the shifter will get stuck in park. The release button will not depress. By 'playing' with the shifter, I can usually get the button to depress and get in out of park. I can 'use' the car by using the park brake and leaving it in neutral, but would prefer to fix it. It doesnt seem to matter wether it is on slope or flat grade. It seems shifter related and nottrans related. Anyone got any input?

chk to see if the brake lites work,, if they do not work , blow the horn, if it worksfuse is ok next step is to replace the brake switch at the pedal
