Accord 1999 burning oil

I have a 99 Accord that has eaten up almost two quarts oil in about 60 miles. the gasket cover was leaking oil earlier, that I got changed last month. I also now have a check engine light that the mechanic says is caused by the catalytic converter. I read somewhere that oil leak inside the engine can knock out the catalytic converter. Since my car's check engine is turned on, I am afraid that the oil leak is severe. Can anyone comment on what exact part inside the engine may have caused the oil burning/leaking?

Probably what you read is if there's a lot of oil leaking past the valve seals, or past the rings, and therefore the oil gets into the combustion chamber where it burns. That can overwhelm the catalyst with carbon.

The oil could be leaking into the coolant. That would be unrelated to the catalyst error. But it would cause a lot of oily sludge to build up in the coolant & you'd be able to see that under the radiator cap.

But really, unless you (or a mechanic) find where the oil is going, it's all guesswork.

The bad news is it sounds like you need to replace or rebuild your engine.

The good news is relatively low mileage and good condition engines for your car are extremely plentiful in a junk yard near you. Odds are pretty good you can get a good engine for less than $400.
