Accord 2000 / Dealer says Trans failing
Hello,
My accord was showing Check Engine and I took it to the Dealer Now, they are saying that the Transmission is having problems and will cost $5500 to fix it. But it drives good. Lastly month only I flushed trans fluid in the same dealership, fixed my rear brake pads and change oil. Any ideas to see if it can be fixed with that price Tag: Please help , need this car for my work. Accord 2000 EX Miles 157K Single owner |
It would be nice to know the actual code(s) you are getting.
I hate to say it but the auto trans in the 98-02 are not that good. Some have driven for weeks/months/years with them acting up be they finally go. If you call around to a few trans shops I bet you can find a lower price. If you do find a shop with a lower price for the rebuild, ask them about any upgrades they do when rebuilding these. PCM code P0700
Transmission Torque converter failure. This is from the dealers report that they gave me. I am wondering is it worth spending this 2 or 3000, on this vehicle??? Will doing Transmission fluid flush work magic ? The drive feels better after i did it. Need your thoughts and input, please. Really value your time. Thanks RJ |
Raj, is the estimate now $2,000-3,000 just to replace the torque converter? All that involves is removing the tranny and pull it out, and slide another one in.
Also if you have a bad torque converter, you should be experiencing high stall speeds before the car moves, or something obvious. Normally the D4 light blinks if its a tranny problem. You could buy your own OBDII scanner and check the code yourself. They can be bought for under $25. |

A certified Honda-remanufactured tranny with 3-yr/36,000 mile warrantee is available from any dealer, but it cost $5,000! It is supposed to contain all Honda updates but there is no info on this anywhere on the web. Sounds like BS to me. |
I'm not an auto trans expert....for that matter I'm not an expert at anything....but the issues with these trans are the same. A good trans shop will be able to handle what you need.
