Accord '93 EX Front wheel noise
 

Greetings,

The driver side fornt wheel started to make a noise that icreases with speed similar to the noise that the old car axle used to make when it has a problem.
The noise is very evident on speeds 70 km/h and above.
I took a quick look at the cv boot but to my surprise it was not damaged.
Could the cv axle produce such a noise even though the boot is still intact?
Moreover, there is no clicking noise when making a full right/left turns.
If not then could it be the front bearing or some thing else?
Is there a way to test an verify?

yes the cv joint could make noise even tho the cv boot is not torn,, but the only noise that i have ever heard from a worn cv joint going straight is when the joint is totally , badly worn and you can hear it also while turning... I will be very surprised if it turns out to be an outer cv joint
are you experiencing any vibration at all when accellerasting ?? the inner cv joint could make the noise going straight .but if worn you could have vibration on accell

the wheel bearing most likely will make a howling noise , you can hear it worse when loading it up ( turn wheel slightly to one side )

The one thing that i find hard to do is to diagnose a noise over the net, one almost has to be there to listen and feel it first hand,,
if wheel has the full hub cap, make sure it is not loose , i have seen a few of those cause a clicking noise

What kind of noise is it? A low rumble? A high pitched squeel? ???

he said it sounded like a bad cv joint,, i am assuming it is a clicking noise..

my 92 honda accord ex had a noise too last 3 weeks ago, everytime i would go thru bad road/streets or bumps the front wheels would case a squeak noise, i took it to my mechanic and it turned out to be a "outer tie rod" only costed me 30 bucs he installed it and no more noise.
he recommended me new honda shocks since im running 18's.

Thanks for all the info.
No, there is no vibration at all and no clicking noise form either cv sides even when doing a full turn.
Furthermore, the cv boots on both side are ok.
The noise is like a howling noise, and I found that the noise increases when I make a slight turn to change lanes on the highway.
So I suspect it is the bearing.
The question I have is how to replace it. Do I need a special tool to take it out from the hub or should I take the hub with a new
bearing to a shop and ask them to install it?

i would take hub and new bearing to a shop and have them press new bearing in,,

to remove hub you need to remove the 36mm axle nut, the lower ball joint nut, separate lower control arm, swing the knuckle assembly out of the way, remove the 4 ,10mm ,12 point bolts from the back side, that's what holds the hub assembly in place, hub will come with the rotor , remove the 4 14mm bolts that hold the rotor on, and all is left is the hub.....

make sure to diagnose which side is noisy if you plan on doing just 1 side ..
