RE: Breather filter

Do you mean the air cabin filter? Or just the stock air filter?

I'm not sure that it is the same on a 4-banger, but on the V6, the breather pulls from the intake so the air is filtered by the engine air filter. Look at the instalation directions for any intake for your car for more info.

Heh, actually, i think the breather he's talking about is to replace the positive crankcase valve (PCV) which sends air to the intake, not the other way around.

It has its benefits and consequences, mainly:

Pro: reduces the temperature of the air in your intake (that crankcase gas is pretty warm)
Con: Dumps the unburned fuel mix into your engine compartment (and the environment)

The whole point of the PCV is to recycle the unburned fuel mix that accumulates in your crankcase (which is an exponentially miniscule amount that slips by the valves compared to what is pumped through the cylinder), by installing a breather and removing the PCV it'll take longer for your engine to reach "ideal" temperature, you'll dump fuel mix into your engine bay (not always a good thing) and your car will no longer pass emissions.

Unless you're running an old stroker v8.....you'll get no tangible benefit from it whatsoever. Has less of an effect as removing your catalytic converter.
