Buying a Honda Accord 2003 sedan model
Hi Everyone !!!
I am new to the Car world and a fan of Honda Accord, thus thinking of buying a Honda Accord sedan 2003 and above. I have a good hand on driving as i rent car on weekends for my trips. But in that case i dont have to worry abt the maintenance :). As this is 2009 most of the cars i am looking are having 100k miles already on it. As per my research on the Accords, the owner must do a TUNING after 100k miles and also must have followed all the routine maintenance as per the Honda User Manual. I have few questions in my mind and would like to present them in front of you all. I would really appreciate if you all help me clear my doubts. 1) Should i buy a Honda Accord (any model from 2003 and above) with 100k+ miles on it? 2) How will i know that the car is well mannered in terms of maintenance and tuning is concern. Is there any check list to confirm all the maintenance is done regularly or not ? 3) Carfax report will just let me know the accident history. How can i know abt the problems in the engine. As 100k+ miles is a big number in terms of miles is concern. Is there a way to find the engine is in good shape ? (I heard that Honda Accord doesn't have any engine problem :)) 4) Fluids in the car like coolant , oil etc shld be changed regularly. Is there any routine and schedule to be followed for it ? 5) What might be the possible expenses i will have to bear if i buy a car with 100k+ miles put up on it ? As u will see from my questions i have many doubts regarding buying a used + a car with 100k+ miles put on it. have to make a decison soon. Hope to see my doubts cleared :) Thank you all !!! *************************************** Looking for a Honda Accord sedan 2003 and above. *************************************** |
Accord 2003 & newer 4-cylinder engine has a timing chain, not a belt. So the big expense of a timing belt at 100k miles is gone. That tune-up mostly consists of new spark plugs.
If you're looking at V-6 Accord, that will need a timing belt... You'll have to judge the mechanical condition of the engine, just like ANY used car. Honda engines can be good for plenty more miles/years than that, but anybody can destroy an engine in 20k miles if they're careless. Consider having a mechanic inspect it. |
Hello Member...
The only correct way to find out if what your buying is to find a person who knows what their looking at..it's always been a catch 22 when buying a car.
If you know cars or think you know cars..then leave it up to your ability.. But if you don't ..look for some one in the automotive field who is a great diagnostic specialists.. |
With more dramatic styling and an increase in size, the new Accord Sedan offers the most room and ... 2003 Honda Accord reliability rating 5 out of 5 [B]...

Few more things to consider: when buying a used car you're looking at something with 30-50K miles on it. Basic checks for used cars have to cover at a minimum:
1. engine condition: compression and oil pressure tests. Look for maintenance records. 2. tranny condition: if auto it's a gamble, if there are records of maintenance great, still a gamble at that mileage. If manual you're good, maybe a clutch replacement - should feel it during tests. 3. general engine bay and under carriage condition: leaks (coolant, engine/tranny oil, power steering), engine oil condition, tranny oil condition, bushing and ball joints play/condition, cv joints boots, suspension arms. 4. how it runs and drives, engine noises, steering feel, tranny shifts/noises, suspension/noises. 5. maintenance records. You need a good mechanic to check all this, if new to auto repair or diy do not take this on. Good luck! |
100k
100K is nothing for a well maintained Accord. If the oil is changed at the service intervals - No problems.
