cam gears

are aftermarket cam gears neccesary? and if they are do they add hp and tq cuz there lightweight and can move faster?

RE: cam gears

They don't do much if they're your only mod. Adjusting away from stock cam timing is mainly good for when you have other mods (like different camshafts).

JimBlake is right. Sounds like you may be thinking more along the lines of aftermarket flywheels and pulleys when you say less rotating mass.

RE: cam gears

i already have the Tru Power pulley kit by AEM. so is it better to do camgears and camshafts together?

you can get some rather small gains from doing cam gears alone but they definitly add more when coupled with new camshafts so you can adjust the timing more exactly. They add power from allowing you the ability to adjust the timing more exactly so just installing them and leaving the timing stock you MIGHT see like 1 HP gain.

more than that... depends on how light they are... HUGE ammounts of ur cars energy is lost just turning the valve train... light weight always helps the less internal mass your engine has the easyer it can run up... with ultra light cam gears you could get up to maby 5 HP + the gains from adjusting your cams... and you might MIGHT see a little difference in how fast your engine revs

ok thanks. i got one more question does anyone know how much it usually runs to port and polish the pistons and wut not? cuz if u polish and port the piston wont it allow it to cycle faster?

RE: cam gears

Correct me if Im wrong, but dont you mean port and polish the cylinder head? I dont think I have ever heard of porting a piston.
