cam gears

what exactly does a cam gear do not the cam shafts? does it just make it lighter so it can spin faster? or is it bigger so it adds hp?

RE: cam gears

some are slightly lighter so it reduces the rotational mass, but when you replace the cam gear youre usually always going to replace it with an adjustable one. With that you have the ability to advanceor retard the timing

RE: cam gears

[align=left]cam gear lightens valve train loss (which is VERY substantial) it also allows for more tuneability... they are always the same size as stock (if they were a different size then they would throw off the timing exponentaly... try to find the lightest u can get... that will give ya the least loss and the most HP/Lbs then u can advance and retard your timing... (cam gears are not recomended for Kseries engines with VCT (varable cam timing) were the engine controls the cam timing itself....
