currently A20A1....where to go from there...

I have an 89 accord with the A20A1. I've been wanting to do an engine swap for some time but i want to go full on and get an engine from a "pull your own part yard", rebuild it, and swap it with mine.

I know that because the A20A1 is a carbed engine i will need to install a third fuel line for fuel return. As well as replacing the fuel sending unit so i have a third line going down into the tank. Not to mention the ECU, headers, axles, and anything else im forgetting about or dont know about.

Im also aware that it would be easier just to get a different car, i want to do this swap so i can say im one of few to go the distance.

anyhow, I've been considering engines for a while and its time to decide on what i CAN put in the car...I know i can put anything that will fit...but im looking to drop it in with no issues or welding needed. I would prefer to put either an H22 or a B18C1 (because i like how it sounds). But im also open to suggestions as long as you detail WHY your suggesting something else.

In short....just what can i easily drop into this? By easy...i mean i dont have to screw around with different motor and transmission mounts.

This will be my first swap but im also going to have other people helping me that know what they're doing....they're just going to make me do most of the work. So...excuse any noobness please...

nothing will swap easy. You will be looking at a full custom job. mounts and everything like you said you didn't want to do.

hmmm, alright, well whats your personal opinion here....if this were your car, what would you put into it?

Perhaps i should be a little more specific...im looking for something that i can put into the car with minimal effort and still get a lot of performance. Is welding in mounts cheaper/better? Eventually i wanna turbo it and im not sure if vtec will increase or decrease performance/stability.

Help me out here? I need a direction to go with this car :P

well from what I found you can swap B series engines in your car. That might be your better bet.
Now if it was my car I would not bother with a B series engine. I don't like them it's a personal preference. I would find a way to swap a F/H series in its engine bay.
But the price of the mounts I found and brand its good. Maybe if you can find he parts make yourself a LS vtec. Uses a integra LS block with a b16 vtec head. Cheap and makes decent power. Put more supporting mods and you can have a nice sleeper.

Yea i talked to a friend of mine whos done a ton of honda engine swaps and after telling him i wanted a turbo he suggested the F22B1....comes out of an 94-97 Accord EX.

I think im gonna go with it because he believes they drop right in and thats exactly what my other neighbor told me...he has a 90 accord with an F22A

if you want to turbo don't mess with the f22b1/2 engines the heads are junk. Swap a f22a engine. All f22 engines are the same but the heads. You will be much better off with a f22a engine over the f22b1/2 engines. Yes swapping a f22 engine into a 90-93 accord is a easy as pie but for your gen it's NOT a drop in. You will need a mount kit axles ect.
Also the other issue is the axles...you will need costume axles.90-97 accords are wider..so for the f22 engine being a drop-in in that is false.

BTW all 90-93 accords come with a f22a engine

What kind of axles do i need??

I've been trying to find A to F series mounts for my year accord but i've been unsuccessful...what are you suggestions?

The only thing I can find for motor mounts are the link I posted be4 ^^^

As for the axles you might want to search around and get 3rd gen accord forum..I know they are out there I have seen them

Yea I've been talking to my friend and we both agree that its easier and cost less to go with a b swap since it's more supported by aftermarket parts, the conversion mounts are readily available and a b series swap is more common for my gen accord anyway. Sorry for being so confussing :P but then again this was the point of this thread. To help figure out what I wanted to or could put into the car.

I decided on a B18A1 or a B18B1. Both are the same engine but as you move up in years theres enough difference to gain HP through each generation of the engine. From 90-91, 92-93, and 94-01. Each engine gained like 8 HP. They're non Vtec, compression is low at 9:2:1 and will be better suited for a turbo then any of the Vtec b series. Also the only other difference is with the transmission used. The B18A1 uses a hydraulic tranny while the other uses a YS1 cable.

All I need to figure out now is what axles to use and what size fuel line I should use since I also found out that I should run the feed line and use the old feed as the return. Change out my fuel tank and sending unit. Collect other pieces I need for the swap and convert to OBD-1 or 2 since I didnt check to see what the B18B or A was set up for.
