EGR and/or PCV: change w/ spark plugs?
 

Hi. I have a 2008 Honda Accord LX 2.4LTR and I'm about to hit 100,000 miles. I'll need to have the spark plugs (and ignition coils?) replaced soon. And, the coolant flushed and replaced. Being that I'm having a few maintenance items taken care of, I thought I should see if I should have the EGR and/or PCV changed out at the same time.

I've done some internet searches, and haven't seen anything on them. So, I'm guessing "pass" on them for now. If / when they need replacing, my expectation is that the part will fail, I'll get a Check Engine light, and the code will reveal the problem.

Thoughts? Anything else people can think of, at the 100K service interval? I did already have the transmission fluid flushed and changed ~ 50K.

I wouldn't change the EGR/PCV unless there was an issue with it.

What I did at 100k was:

Coolant (Honda Fluid)
Thermo
Plugs (not coils change them if they go out)
Belt
Brake fluid
Power steering fluid
Trans fluid (drain not flush)

Some might not do this but it's what made me feel comfortable. Preventive maintenance is up to what the manual says and what the owner feels they need in addition. For me there are certain things I didn't want to put me on side of the road. You are doing good only to have 100k on a 08. I have an 07 and it has 180k on it and that with me being deployed overseas 3 times. Lol.

You could remove the PCV valve & see if it's full of crud. You should be able to rattle the little plunger inside (it's on a spring). If it moves around, good. If not, you can probaly clean it out with TB cleaner (or buy a new one).
