engine shuts off while driving.... help??
Doesn't happen often, but from time to time while driving down the road you will notice almost a power surge and everything turns off. lights radio engine....everything. after literally a second , you can restart the car and it keeps on going. Some one mentioned a sensor that could be causing it but didnt know the name of it. Any thoughts on this or advice on how to fix.
Thank you all |
There are a few things that come to mind. If you could let us know the year and engine it would help as well.
1. Check all battery connections to be sure they are clean and tight - not just at the battery but the "other ends" as well. 2. The electrical part of the ign switch can and does fail. Again if you could narrow down the year/engine and that it might help for more ideas.....or even throw out the ones I posted  |
its a 97 2.2 . I've had a few people mention the IGN switch failing in their car and it doing the same thing.

Really still wanting to hear some opinions on this since i posted the the year/engine. It did it again yesterday and took a few minutes to actually start back this time. Also why would the fans only kick on when the car is off and will not kick on while the car is running and starting to overheat?

You've received good advice.
Time to act on it and find out whether battery cables are in good condition and securely connected. Then if problem repeats, you need to check for missing battery voltage at the blk/yel wire of the distributor connector. It should have 12V w/ the ignition switch On. If not, ignition switch should be replaced. Due to the nature of an intermittent problem, you must wait until no-start condition is present to perform the voltgage check. good luck |
