ENGINE SMOKING, need some help

I drove to a friend's house tonight and upon arrivng home, I noticed smoke and a certain whistling coming from my hood of my 2000 accord. I have just bought the car so I am upset to say the least. I am not sure at all what the problem is. The smoke appears to be coming from the top left of the engine block or some part underneath the top left area if looking under hood. The smoke is white and the whistling is something I am unfamiliar with, a while after I shut her down could you hear the whistling continue, it finally stopped by the time it took me to go inside and get a flashlight. Any help or ideas of what the hell happened, that'd be great. Thanks..

Check coolant level in case cooling system is leaking.

It's not uncommon for valve cover gasket to leak and allow oil to reach exhaust manifold and smoke will result. Also possible for leaks from oil pressure switch or oil filter reaching exhaust pipe. Time for getting on a lift and looking for evidence of oil leakage.

Hissing may be something else entirely. Leaking vacuum line (check all lines).

The noise could also be steam associated w/ cooling system leak. Check for cooling system leaks.

good luck

Did the "smoke" smell like burnt rubber or did it smell kind of sweet?
