erratic idle when cold
96 4 cyl 5 speed non vtec. It idles up and Doin when first start it up, but after a little driving its fine. Was told it probably isn't the IAC. Its had a new head gasket and was suggested that it wasnt torque right which is causing a vacumn leak. Any ideas?

Head gasket torqueing doesn't cause vacuum leaks. Forget to re-connect a vacuum hose? Got any hoses that are hardened or cracked? Re-used any marginal gaskets at the throttle body or intake manifold?
Next you can check out the FITV - underneath the throttle body, it sets the fast-idle when the engine is cold. Maybe dirty, but also search for a thread about tightening a plunger inside that valve. |
Well I got the car it was already done (I can see the new gasket)
|
So you didn't replace the head gasket yourself. I guess the same questions apply; are there any vacuum leaks anywhere? And consider cleaning/tightening the FITV.
A headgasket that is not properly torqued can cause problems, but not exactly a vacuum leak. You might see coolant leaking, or maybe coolant getting into the oil, etc. |
I had that problem with a 97 accord idle up and down the fast idle under throttle body the plastic plunger back out I guess from vibrations after re tightening it was ok try looking into that head gasket won't cause that
