Favorite Engine

Asking for members to reply and tell me what is your favorite Honda 4 cylinder engine and why.

Which is your favorite among Vtec engines?

What are a few modifications and/or replacement parts that can be done to a
Honda 4 cylinder engine?

Should the Cat be removed?

What would dual mufflers due to the performance?

Thanks all...

I guess I'd say my favorite would be a K24a2. Infinite power and upgrade potential. Just costly to swap and upgrade.

Honda Engine

I am not familiar with this engine.
Can you give me some details about it?

Thank you.

How about the RA-series engines? Oh wait, they're not 4-cyl.

Jap.Doe 11-03-2011 09:09 PM

K24a2 also, or the H22 JDM.

1st fav. engine: h23a vtec.

Better of both worlds with a good low end tq. with a nice high end power band.
Fairly cheap to swap. Awesome after market support. If build right it can be a beast of a engine.

2nd fav. engine: f22a

Really easy to find and dirt cheap engine.
TONS of aftermarket support. Cheap parts. Easy to build. Makes lot's of tq. Also if Bisimoto 455hp f22a engine speaks for itself. (if you don't know what I'm talking about google it)

It all depends on your budget on what parts you can add to your engine. ;)

You can replace your cat with a test pipe if you want. But if you live in a area that dose emissions testing then you will fail. You also will be limited to what parts you can add to your engine.

Dual mufflers on a honda = FAIL

What vehicles and years did this engine come in?

Favorite Engine--2

Let me clarify this question:

What would be your favorite Honda 4 cylinder engine IF ---

1--the engine was going to remain mostly stock.
2--It will have an auto trans.
3--The 2 main things are reliability & gas mileage, but a small boost in performance is fine as long as it doesn;t detract from the 2 main aspects .

Now the other question is---
What minor things can be done and/or added to increase reliability, gas mileage and performance?

1--Should a header be added?
2--Should the cat be removed?
3--What size exhaust be used?
4--Should the air intake be changed?
4--What else should be done or added?

Thanks all.

*Note---When you state your engine choice--please include the years and vehicles the engine was originally in.

The K24 (2003 & newer Accord) is a real nice engine. Had a 2003 manual-trans Accord with that, and it was much smoother & nicer than the F23 in another 1998 Accord we used to own. More modern, has chain-driven cams, more sophisticated engine-management. Basically it's a modern 2003 engine, not a re-designed updated 1991 engine.

-------------

A LOT depends on what car you'd put it into. It's a HUGE amount of work to put a K-series engine into a 2002 or older Accord. And it'll have enough custom work that it might not qualify as being very "stock".

OTOH, I wouldn't want to put an older F23 or H23 engine into a 2005 Accord.

PS. the RA series engine was just a wisecrack. Those are V-12 engines for Formula-1.

If you are going to swap the motor and keep the auto transmission then you won't see much gain in performance. Honda automatic transmission are not the strong point even for stock engine.

h23a vtec came out of the Japan siR wagon. Not available in the states

f22a engines came from the cb7 accords (90-93)

Favorite Engine--2

I will be buying a COMPLETE vehicle as a project, so I was wanting to know which engine was the favorite among Honda owners and why.
Needing also to know which vehicle and years of manufacture that engine came in stock.

It HAS to have an auto trans and there will be NO engine swaps or major mods.

Needing to gain knowledge from all the members here so my money is spent wisely.

Thanks in advance.

I will be looking at an Accord from 1990-1999.

A STOCK vehicle--no engine swaps or major mods.

Now what is your choice of these years?

g22cd5 11-09-2011 12:23 PM

90-93 accord all day every day. But that's just me

f22a engines are stout and will last a long time if taken care of properly. I would say find a 90-93 accord EX or SE. If you can snag the EX or SE with the f22a6 engine would be the best. It produces the most amount of power from all the f22a engines
