Fuel injector cleaner additives bogus?
 

Hi I am brand new here,

In almost any store, one can stumble upon a fuel additive that promises to clean your fuel injectors and condition the entire fuel system, all while insuring your tank remains water free. I have recently found out how the water is removed from the gas tank with the aid of an additive such as HEET, but what about the other things they supposedly do? Do they clean your injectors and other fuel system parts as advertised, if so which ones? Also what fuel additives in general are good for Hondas to keep em running clean and smooth?

I would guess that quality brands have additives that work. Enough places recomend them that they should work just fine. But there is some gas that has it already like Shell or Chevron that I've used and so I don't bother with adding any cleaner. My car is working great so far as these two are the only types of gas I run in my car. Search around the web using fuel additives as the search and see what you dig up. There are prob. a lot of mag. reviews or articles on these things that will tell you more and maybe give tested results as well. That is my best answer to finding out for sure. I don't know any average car owner that has done a real test that can really tell you if they work as claimed as that would involve a lot of miles driving and constantly removing the cyl head and fuel injectors to check and measure the deposits left or removed while trying different brands. See if you can find a auto magazine test or simular tests that are verified of results.
You peaked my interest though, I think I'll try the same search and see what I can come up with. I've been asked this by a friend recently as well and I just recomended the gas types I listed above. I am interested as well. Good luck searching if you care to look.

Here is another one that I would say is more legit. It mainly talks about the additive results of gas that comes with detergents. There is a few areas in this site to look over but it may help answer your question better..

Only insight that I can offer is as to what product I find that works for my cars and that would be Lucas Fuel injecter cleaner...seems to be Top Shelf as far as products are...

When I went to school for Yamaha outboards they recommended Chevron's Techron which I have used with great success. Yamaha's own brand of Carb/Injector cleaner is actually Techron.

I know a lot of people who swear by Seafoam, too. It's available at most parts stores, and has been around for many years. It goes beyond just cleaning injectors, it also cleans the intake manifold, valves and decarbonizes the pistons. Also, check out it's other uses by reading the label. Pretty comparable in price, too.

I got one of those Gumout's concentrated injector cleaner "For Large Vehicles", says treats up to 35 gallons. You think if I poured all of that into my 16-17 gallon tank it could damage some rubber gaskets or fittings or somethings?
