The VIN number should be in the lower corner of the windshield...usually driver's side.

I dont know that you should worry about the VIN on the donor car. What car do you have? Are you looking for a Prelude from a junkyard, or going for a JDM motor?

you need an h22a1. The vin number is needed for inspection purposes to legalize your engine for the road. as far as that incompatibilty issue..the only one you may have is going from sohc to dohc..which would require the donor car's ecu, or a reflashed/programmable aftermarket ecu. even then you shouldn't end up with blown valves unless the engine was in poor condition and you over drove it.

tenth vin is the year, I am pretty sure any way.
